A Russell Armer Homes apprentice has scooped Kendal
College’s ‘Construction Apprentice of the Year Award’ beating 28 other
apprentices to the honours.
Daniel Hammond, aged 23 and from
Kendal, has been studying brickwork at Kendal College for 8.5 hours a week in
the last academic year, having studied full-time on the Level 1 Brickwork
course the previous year. Winning Kendal
College’s award meant gaining the vote of the course tutors, with each tutor
putting nominees forward before a collective decision was made.
Daniel shone because of his
excellent work ethic and technical abilities.
He completed his apprenticeship well ahead of time and produced very
good work all year.
Daniel is currently working on
site with Russell Armer Homes’ bricklayers, getting practical experience at
developments in Ingleton, Kendal and Penrith, before returning to Kendal
College in September for his Level 3 course.
Russell Armer Homes’ Construction
Director, Andrew Taylor, says: “We are all delighted that Daniel’s progress has
been recognised by Kendal College through this award. On site, it is clear that Daniel is committed
to his work and I am confident that he will become an excellent tradesman on
completion of his apprenticeship.”
Daniel is naturally delighted
with the recognition he has received. He
says: “Over the past 15 months, I have put in a lot of hard work during my time
at college and on site, but I was still surprised and pleased to receive the
Construction Apprentice of the Year Award.
The support of my work colleagues and the college staff has helped my
progression towards becoming a tradesman enormously and I must thank everyone for
their guidance.”
Speaking on behalf of Kendal
College, Graham Wilkinson, Principal of Kendal College, says: “Daniel was up
against 28 other apprentices for this award, but he thoroughly deserved to win.
It is always a privilege to have had a student like Daniel attend Kendal
College and we are pleased he will be joining us again in September to complete
his Level 2 qualification.”
