Cumbrian Home Builder Visits Grange CE Primary
Pupils at Grange CE Primary
School have recently built on their knowledge of homes and how homes are
constructed thanks to a visit from Russell Armer Homes’ construction director,
Andrew Taylor.
The pupils
have been working on a project about
building and buildings through the ages, comparing homes of the past with those
of the present day.
Andrew Taylor, who is overseeing
the building of four-bedroom houses at Pengarth, Grange-over-Sands, went into
the classroom armed with samples of building materials that the children could
see and handle. This allowed them to discover how modern roofs and walls are
constructed and of what they are composed.
Andrew explained how a home is
built and then helped children build their own ‘properties’, using cereal
boxes, yogurt cartons and other craft materials. The pupils worked to a plan for their ideal
house, which they had already drawn. As
they built their dream home, Andrew was on hand to watch and assist.
Andrew Taylor says: “Russell
Armer Homes has been part of the Cumbrian landscape for over 50 years and we
believe in engaging with community and education projects like that at Grange
Primary School, so that we can give something back to our homeowners and
potential homeowners.
“The children were very
enthusiastic and had some great ideas.
Maybe some of them could be Russell Armer Homes employees of the
future!”
